Although the car isn’t running, I am much closer to that point. I took this week off intending to get the car running, but found that I needed to do a considerable amount of metal preservation in the engine compartment.
After much sanding, priming and painting, I just finished the touch-up work and the engine bay is done and ready for reassembly (once everything is dry). Tomorrow I will drop the oil pan and retrieve the old and install the oil pump drive shaft…and reinstall the oil pan (and new gasket). I will be installing the new engine gauge and alternator wire harnesses, reinstalling the newly painted pulleys and brackets and relocating the ignition components.
I need to set cylinder 1 on TDC of the power stroke and install the distributor and finish the front end engine component install.
I am in the midst of painting my cooling fan, waiting for the drying of the first paint coat. I paid a visit to my buddy’s friend at Les Schwab to media blast the surface rust off the fan structure and the fan spacer. The fan had a good bit of surface rust and the original FoMoCo fan spacer was corroded and powdery (cast aluminum).
Tomorrow is going to be a busy day!!
